Isabelle Curtis joins newspaper editorial staff

Isabelle “Is” Curtis joins the Boothbay Register/Wiscasset Newspaper staff as a full-time reporter.

Curtis is a Boothbay Harbor native, and longtime contributor to the Boothbay Register. In 2021, Curtis completed a journalism internship at her hometown paper as part of Curtis's coursework at University of New Hampshire and has since continued to write for the Register during their school breaks.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to officially be on-staff,” said Curtis. “I remember calling up the Register trying to get a summer internship back when I was in high school, so this really has been a long time coming for me.”

“Hiring a Boothbay Harbor native to the editorial staff – and a bright one, at that – has been a goal for a few years now,” said Editor Kevin Burnham. “Isabelle has proven herself during the years of being a news contributor and we were just waiting until she completed her schooling to hire her. She knows the region well and that’s a big plus for the newspaper and the community.”

Curtis holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from University of New Hampshire, and recently graduated with a master’s in nonfiction writing from her alma mater. Curtis's master’s thesis, “Violating Community Guidelines,” a deep dive into the pop culture of the past decades through the lens of Curtis’ personal experiences, won Curtis the school’s “Young P. Dawkins III Prize in Creative Writing” for best nonfiction thesis
